Gernica by Pablo Picasso
Enseñando Cubismo en una clase de historia del Arte a un grupo de niños de 9 años les pregunte: “que ven en esta pintura, refiriéndome a una ilustración del Gernica.” Todos muy atentos y pensando muy detenidamente su respuesta dijeron: “vemos un caballo, gente y pocos colores…” A lo que recalque: “no pregunto que hay en la pintura, si no que ustedes ven en ella…” Volvieron a mirarla y nadie contesto, de pronto una niña levanto la mano y me dijo: “ VEO UNA GUERRA GRANDE, DENTRO DE UN CUARTO PEQUEÑO…”
No creo que Picasso nunca escucho de un adulto esta contestación… pero como el mismo solía decir “Cada niño es un artista. El problema esta en mantenerlo siendo un artista una vez que crece.”
Siempre dentro de m i espíritu de artista y amante de la historia del arte, llevare grabado en mi memoria ese momento, y nunca olvidare a esa pequeña niña de pensamientos tan profundos.
While teaching Cubism in an Art History class to a group of 9 year old children I asked them: "what do you see in this painting, referring myself to an illustration of the Gernica." All very kind and thinking at a very great extent their answer they said: "we see a horse, people and only a few colors..." To which I emphasized: "I am not asking you what is inside the painting, I am asking you what do you see in it..." They watched it again and nobody answer, suddenly a girl raised her hand and said to me: "I SEE A BIG WAR, IN A SMALL ROOM..."
I do not believe that Picasso never heard from an adult this kind of answer... but as he used to say "Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.”"
Always within my artist spirit and my love for Art History I will keep inside my memory that moment, and I will never forget that little girl of such insightful thoughts.
